Kontrahenterna
Bringing beloved characters to life
Kontrahenterna is Denise Rudberg’s acclaimed historical novel series, set in Stockholm during the Second World War. At its heart are three female codebreakers – Elisabeth, Iris and Signe – whose secret work for Swedish intelligence unfolds alongside their personal lives, friendships and struggles in wartime Sweden. The characters are inspired by women in Rudberg’s own family.
A story that continues
The concept has now run for three years and is designed to continue with future releases, building recognition and a stronger connection between the readers, the characters and the world of the books.
The series continues to attract a devoted readership. In 2026, Vår sjätte attaché won Novel of the Year at the Storytel Awards, further confirming the enduring appeal of Rudberg’s characters and storytelling.
Client: Norstedts
Deliverables: Long-term campaign concept, casting, campaign films, outdoor advertising, in-store campaigns, social media, digital advertising
From page to screen
Rudberg’s readers have developed a strong relationship with the three main characters, and many dream of seeing the books brought to the screen. We took that idea as the starting point for a long-term campaign concept.
Three actors were cast as Elisabeth, Iris and Signe, giving the characters recognisable faces and bringing the world of Kontrahenterna to life beyond the books. Rather than creating a completely new campaign for every release, we built a recurring cast and visual universe that evolves with the series. Each year, the characters return in new films and campaign material connected to the latest book.
